The concept of world music was mainstreamed in the 1980s for marketing purposes, and there are several hybrid genres such as worldbeat, global fusion, ethnic fusion, and world fusion. World music enthusiasts often argue that there is no musical style specifically identified with the genre, and the term was coined to bring international music closer to the mainstream of Western pop music. Billboard magazine introduce the world music chart in 1990, and the Grammy awards started including a world music category in 1991, which helped bring some of these artists into more record collections.
